(1) Choose Someone Local to your Ticket Location:
Here at My Traffic Guys, we take pride in only handling tickets in San Diego County. That way we ensure that we are familiar with court locations, the judges, the officers, and most importantly how tickets are handled. Surprisingly, even the different court locations within the county handle different violations differently and you want an attorney who can advise you of those differences. We always recommend trying to choose a traffic ticket attorney in the County in which you received your ticket.
(2) What Experience Does the Attorney Have?
Some attorneys will handle traffic tickets and other attorneys are traffic ticket attorneys. Hire someone who handles tickets and is in the traffic courts on a daily basis. You do not want someone unfamiliar with potential punishments representing you and making things worse than they would have been if you had not fought the ticket. Contact potential attorneys and find out if they are in traffic court on a daily basis.
(3) Online Service or Actual Attorney?
There are computerized services out there that have you send a photo of your ticket, but never have an attorney review the case prior to making a decision whether to contest the ticket or not. Here, at My Traffic Guys, we always offer a free consultation to discuss the ticket with you, answer all questions prior to starting, and see if it may be a benefit to hire an attorney before making the decision. Often the consultation only takes a few minutes and all questions are answered and nothing is a mystery. We understand that for a lot of people, contacting an attorney for a traffic ticket may be the first time you have ever spoken to an attorney, and that is why we take our time, review the court procedure with you, the facts of your specific case, and answer any questions you may have to ensure you feel comfortable making a decision on whether to fight our ticket and how.
(4) Make Sure you are Comfortable with the Attorney
Attorneys have all sorts of approaches and methods for handling cases. You want to make sure you have had communication with your attorney and you are on the same page. Generally, during an intake call, we discuss how the court process works and what can be done. If you feel comfortable moving forward you can hire us the day we communicate or anytime later prior to the court date. We do not believe in a high pressure sales pitch and want you to be able to make the best decision for yourself based on the most relevant information about the ticket.
